Mood: Wanting SW winds!

2nd October 2004
Windsurfing: Portland Wind Direction: west Wind Stength: 20-30knts Surf / Sea State: Small Chop Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunshine with the odd shower Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Arrived at the beach for about 8:00, didn't realise that it was speed week.
1 other guy on the water on a 6.2 complaining of being underpowerd so I
rigged the 6.5 and took the Stoke out. That guy on the water must have
weighed 200kg! Massivly overpowered I hammered down to the far end of the
harbour, keeping as close to the wind as possible. Put on as much outhaul
as could then had the scariest of broad reaches possible to get back to the
launching area. Only problem was that by the time I got there I was to
scared to change my stance in any way because of the impening catapult so I
just kept on going. Sail got ripped out of my hands when I enentually tried
to gybe, so water started and did the whole thing again.
Came in and rigged the 5.75. Still hugley overpowerd, only did one run then
rigged the 5.0 and took out the Max2Air. managed a few fast runs, but then
the wind dropped off a little so took out the 5.75 again but on the
Max2Air. Thats when I really started to have a laugh. Everything just
seemedto click, Chaseing the spped guys down the course, screaming gybes at
the end, swimming back to my kit, then flying back up wind. Really good
fun. I don't think I have ever sailed as fast before. The speed of the
gybes was incredible, but due to terrible technique I still havn't planed
out of one yet! Still have the worlds largest cigar wiating for me to do
that one....
